Winter driving can be a very daunting task, but it’s better to do it in a car which is capable of taking on extreme weather. There are a range of prestige cars which are more skilled than others when it comes to tackling the likes of ice and snow – including the very popular Range Rover Evoque.

If you’re not a fan of the Range Rover Evoque, there are other 4×4 cars which are just as talented in wintry conditions, including models from Volvo, Porsche and Bentley.

  • Make sure you’re prepared for the worst. Winter can be unpredictable, especially in the UK, so make sure you’ve packed essentials including warm clothes, a shovel, food and water etc.
  • Due to the icy conditions, it’s a possibility that when you break, you may skid. If this happens, always steer into the slide.
  • Luxury cars are fitted with easily the best safety systems on the market. It’s best to always take advantage of this as they’re featured for a reason.
  • Keep your speed as low as possible – this is common sense.

The Volvo XC90 has been rated one of the safest cars on the market, due to the various different safety systems it features. With the XC90 being rated a full 5 starts in the Euro NCAP tests, along with 97% occupant protection and 100% for its safety systems, you’ll never not feel safe in this luxury 4×4.

With this Porsche Cayenne being the GTs model, expect the engine to produce more power than previous. It’s 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 engine now consumes 0.9L less fuel and gains 20bhp more than the original V8 engine, so power has increased and suspension is smoother than ever.

Porsche offer Pirelli winter tyres in order to help in severe conditions, but these do come at a cost. As well as this, the comfortable interior features heated seats and more in order to help the driver and passengers in the cold conditions.

Bentley Bentayga
The Bentley Bentayga is the most expensive on the list – but with what it offers, the price is understandable. Bentley are known for their ability to provide a confident drive on ice/snow, so much that they even provide an event in which people are able to pay to take a Bentley car for a spin on ice, but of course it comes at a cost which isn’t cheap.

In order to make winter driving safe, the Bentayga features a drive dynamics mode in which its able to take on any terrain including snow and ice with the choice of switching between four different settings: Comfort, Sport, Custom and Bentley.
